About This Module
This module provides an overview of ArcMap for Small Water Systems and is a 45-page illustrated, step-by-step instruction manual/course outline that introduces small water system managers to GIS, specifically ESRI’s ArcMap 9.1. Topics reviewed in this module include:
- An overview of GIS data types, projections, and other basic information.
- Introduction to the ArcMap 9.1 interface.
- Exploration of attribute data and tables in ArcMap.
- Applying custom symbology to water system data.
- Creating custom water system maps.
- Selecting water system data by attribute and by location.
Module Audience
This module is for individuals who have little or no experience using GIS. The target audience includes thousands of small public water supply systems in the U.S.

The materials will be promoted and distributed with the help of the PA Rural Water Association, the National Rural Water Association, and the Department of Environmental Protection.

- ESRI ArcMap version 8 or later (9.1 is used for all of the illustrations)
